Baby Girl likes to put everything to bed. We’ve been making sleeping bags for a long time. I kind of like the latest – for McD’s Oz toys or Princess Polly’s – cute fabric with wool felt lining – quick and easy makes a happy baby (and mommy!).

I love This American Life – I remember when we lived in St. Louis when I saw a picture of Ira Glass for the first time…a cute geek! And brilliant and funny. Last week’s show was great – What I learned from TV – and while each contributor of that episode is amazing – David Rakoff is also brilliant! And the radio show is adding TV…here’s a clip…

My second brother is just a little younger then me (although still willing to break bones which I'm not).
Another excellent Uncle – I was so proud of him getting his shoes wet on a bitterly cold Chicago Thanksgiving to build his little niece a sandcastle. (That's true 'best uncle' competition spirit – and love!)

This is a picture of my eldest brother (in front of a big cloud off of Mount St. Helens – that's cool).
We spent a great deal of time together as kids playing Super Mario, eating chinese food (or mac and cheese if we had to cook). He's turned into a great uncle – he can sit on the floor for hours and play (he's pretty happy to have an excuse to play with the playdough and paints).
I guess I'll have to start a series here – it's a good place to begin!

Baby Girl is getting into crafts – I suppose it would be hard for her not to notice my completely overwhelimg and overgrown craft area in the back of our house. Our new most favorite acitivity has to be melty beads. I want to be patient and let her do them on her own, but really, I just want to make my own…
disposable cameras
My husband is a professional photographer. We have at least 3 pro-level Canons around. I love disposable cameras. And I love developing them when I don’t remember when they’re from. We just got some pictures back today from Christmas in Tucson. I love this shot of Baby Girl – outside in the desert, as the sun sets, perched on a chair in her Christmas dress-up.

There seem to be blog contests all the time. Bloggers are so generous and creative.
I often miss them or don’t enter for one of the usual million reasons, but I did enter Amanda’s contest for a photo of my explorer box doing something unique to my home area when it arrived (the explorer boxes were part of the yarn aboard swap).
I was delighted today to find out that I won a gift certificate to Scout’s Swag. So thank you Amanda for your hard work and generosity and thank you Leif for some excellent sledding!
I tied with Carola who was able to take the Leif box home to it’s Daddy!

My father-in-law sent a link today with kind of a fun toy. VisualDNA – I’m not that impressed by the results about me (although I’m also not a big believer in horoscopes), but the interface is very pretty and I like the flash book it sorts everything into.
I will admit that I like to save every fortune I’ve ever received from a cookie!

sometimes i think i need to be crafting to make content (which would be ideal), but sometimes there’s a lot going on… and then i remember that there are so many people out there making so many cool computer/blog toys… how cool are these cards?!? (from blyberg and i saw it on knitting in pink)

A Family that skis together…
Baby Girl finished her first set of ski lessons a couple weeks ago so we’ve started taking her out ourselves. It’s a little funny because we both snowboard, but she’s so good! And it’s so unbelievably fun to all go out on the hill together. Expect a lot of gratuitous baby skiing shots…

So, in a slightly earlier life I worked at a film festival for a couple years. We ran a shorts festival – maybe I’ve seen 2,000 shorts – that’s probably a little high, but it was a lot. whip up posted this short today… I always like a good animated short!

I’m not sure I love this bag… I think maybe the colors should be more ‘fun’ for this pattern. But – I am loving crochet again and the simple pattern. There is something so nice about just hooking over and over again – and I like changing colors. We’ll see how the finishing goes…
preparing
Valentine’s Day is big in my family. Not in a romantic way – certainly Baby Girl would not be so interested. More in a how much red stuff can we buy kind of way.
So for Baby Girl’s first school Valentine’s Day party we could not just hand out the little white envelope cards with her “T” written on them. (Although since my mom is the instigator of this love of the day we do own the Barbie cards, My Little Pony cards and Olivia cards – thanks Mom!)
We have nice valentine’s from paper source (thanks mom!), in little cellophane bags, with candy and party favors. Baby Girl and I had great fun sorting and stuffing all the little bags. I hope they fit in the kids little mailboxes they made!

The Boy found the first buds of spring this week!
It has been unseasonably warm and I know we need more snow to keep the ski season in shape, but it’s always nice to know that spring is coming.
new steps
For the past six years I’ve worked at an arts center as an administrator and gallery coordinator. I’ve overseen reams of paper and truckloads of art work. It’s been a lot of fun – I work with good people and we work on a gorgeous old sheep ranch on four acres in the mountains. But as of yesterday everyone knows that I’m moving on…
I’m really excited!
(one of the people I’ve worked with for years brought me this book as a present. people can be so amazingly thoughtful and generous!)
