On Easter morning Tilly and I went to the Easter Egg Hunt at the Snowmass Club. Susan gave us a beautiful dress that she had made for Emily. I let Tilly run around in the petticoat because I thought it was so beautiful. Susan thinks it might be 100 years old. A bunch of the photos are posted at flickr.

I’m embarrased to say how long I’ve owned my Gocco and not used it. The Boy was sweet enough to buy it for me as a present – and I really, really wanted it. But then somehow it went into the closet and it’s been forever.
So the other night The Boy helped me start working on a cafe crafty logo. My friend and I have been Aspen Paperie at the Aspen Farmer’s Market for the past few years, but I’m ready for something new. So I started working on a two screen cafe cup print. I love printing! I love watching those multiples with minor variations grow across my desk!
In a previous life I built props for theatre. At any of the theaters I was at I ended up being the fake food maker and cake decorator. You make a foam cake and then decorate it with some weird plasticy stuff – I can’t remember. My stage cakes looked pretty good – but I never got into decorating real cakes.
So, for Baby Girl’s birthday she wants a ‘my little pony’ party – easy, no problem – Target has all the stuff. Somehow though, the grocery store – who has every kind of character cake imaginable – doesn’t have a ‘my little pony’ cake. So when we were away last weekend I bought the cake decorating kit at Michael’s. I thought there would be enough instruction to figure it out. The kit came with lots of great stuff – BUT NO BOOK! That’s why I bought the kit! Oh well – we did a trial run today, to get ready for next week. It’s a little standard and hokey, but she was pretty happy and I think in the end it’s kind of cute for a 3rd birthday.
Next week it will be a big sheet cake. I used Martha Stewart’s yellow cake recipe and the frosting is from the KitchenAid cookbook that comes with the stand mixer. I also bought the concentrated icing color at Michael’s – I might need to use a little less for the real cake!
disclaimer: all photos today were taken with the camera phone.
Thanks to Amanda! She bought my first sock bag from etsy and sales continued all week…
so I added 9 new bags…take a peek!
I am so excited to be a part of back tack III. Number II was one of the first things that really impressed me when I was really getting into reading blogs (besides discovering Bloglines).
So in preparartion I decided I better make one of Hillary’s Pointy Kitties for Baby Girl as a test run. Here’s the body and head waiting to be stuffed and stitched together. It’s so silly, but it always kind of cracks me up to have a creature in parts on my desk!
Last week while surfing – we were supposed to be working – The Boy and I bumped into the Wurst Gallery – we gocco show. It was funny because we had both found it separately and then forgotten to show each other. We bought Kate Bingaman’s set of prints. We both loved them – what an easy buy!
I focused on one project this past weekend and I made a bunch of Sock Knitting Bags! Just perfect for carrying around your sock knitting. I’m really happy with them. Each one is about 10″ by 9″ and holds a skein of yarn and two circular needles. I really enjoyed making my little ‘cafe crafty’ tag – I can’t wait to try more ribbons and paint. The bags are for sale in my etsy store. Enjoy!
We have a PO Box for our mail and somehow we hadn’t checked this week until today – and there was a little key waiting – which means there is a bigger package waiting. I was so excited to find knit picks sock yarn from my secret pal! Mindy lives in Iowa and is getting married soon! Thank you so much Mindy and good luck!
We watch TV.
Baby Girl likes the ads.
So – in honor of our current ad obsession…
FLOAM
We had to Floam a dinosaur
I made these little bags as gifts for Valentine’s Day (forever ago) and then realized when I was knitting my sock that it was the perfect size to carry my sock yarn and circulars. I love my Lexie Barnes bag, but it’s nice to have something smaller to throw in my purse. I’m going to make some more to put up for sell on etsy and see if any other sock knitters agree with me.
In the series about the only books I’m currently reading (installment two) these are Baby Girl’s two favorite books – currently
The T. Rex book and the Body book are both really well made and interesting. Baby Girl knows so much – and The Boy and I have learned a lot!
The secret pal given to me was Kaitie at Law School and Knitting? I had a great time reading her blog and finding cute things to send her. I’m so happy her package arrived!
I finished my very first pair of socks!
I wore them to work last week – in clogs with rolled up jeans so I could show off – and I got tons of compliments. I really love them. My sweet georgia yarn is so soft! And really, with Sensational Knitted Socks and Socks on Two Circulars it was hard to screw up (although I tried). The colourway goes really nicely with my rocket dog clogs and gives me a great excuse to wear them both (even though falling in these clogs is always a little too close).
I was so proud I even showed them off around my house…snowbunnie went to sleep!
Baby Girl asked me to make her a matching pair. I made mine so short I think I have enough yarn to do just that. I made mine short – because even though it’s just knitting I was so anxious to get to the heel I just needed to get there as soon as possible.
I used the very first pattern in Sensational Socks with a 2×2 rib. It was so fun! It doesn’t take forever and in the end you have this amazing object – I can see knitting a lot of socks!
i was so excited to have a package slip waiting for me at the post office.
my secret pal sent this super cute book…
So in all the craziness of last week – gallery install, show opening, paper trails for days – our car broke down. We only have one car, it broke down about 45 minutes away and it took a week to fix.
My fabulous boss was amazing and lent me a car for the whole week!
I knit her this little dishcloth. The pattern is from Melissa’s Knitting Pages and I originally saw the link at whip up. The cloth has a little house pattern in it, although it’s hard to see with the shifting colors. It was pretty cute, easy and fun to make!
Sunday was sunny with fresh snow. I went snowboarding in the morning. I hiked up to the top of Long Shot – took this picture – and then rode the longest run on the mountain – about 3 miles. It was the best I’ve ever done on that run – like flying!
so i’m halfway through my first sock ever. i don’t want to admit how long it took me to get to this point (there was lots of undoing and re-knitting). i’m moving forward again though – and i have to say i’m amazed – it’s like a sock!
So I finally bought my Addi Turbos last weekend. I started my first sock last night with my Sweet Georgia yarn. I’m using both Socks Soar and Sensational Knitted Socks. We’ll see how it goes..
