summer

it was 90 degrees here today. not bad for most of you, but we moved here to avoid the heat. so today we spent most of the afternoon on top of Ajax. at 12.000 feet it's much cooler. they have a 'ropes course' kind of park for tilly, excellent lunch for me and bluegrass for jeremy.

a nice day!

kid craft

ShoeCraft
Shoes
today we made tiny shoes. tilly was pretty tired from yesterday (ballet, swimming, the hard life…) so we hung out around the house. she found these princess slippers to decorate in some craft book so i spent most of the day making small shoes while she painted and jeweled.

pizza

as on most nights this summer we had two of the nerighbor kids over. tilly is so happy to have friends over and include them in whatever she's doing.

we were making homemade pizza for dinner so we set-up a pizza station for everybody. a ball of dough, a bowl of tomato paste, a bowl of cheese – all on a plastic cutting board with a plastic knife. it keeps them happy for a little bit and then they're pretty excited when each of their own little pizzas comes out of the oven.

thank goodness for my kitchen aid stand mixer. i would never make homemade dough it if it wasn't for that.

summer

I love summer. Tilly and I spent all day at the pool. (Yes, we have a good life.) We strolled there and back which was so relaxing and summery. It's kind of a long walk so Tilly took her KidzBop headphones which we usually save for trips and she listened to music part of the way. She looked fabulous this morning!

And when we got home we had a bunch of neighbor kids over and we made root beer floats – like it was hot like summer in the midwest.

best day ever

i've had a lot of best days. this was one of them. today jeremy and i
were able to attend two events at Food & Wine – a three-day food & wine
event sponsored by the magazine of the same name. what an amazing experience. first we were able to attend a 'grand tasting' which is a football field sized tent full of mostly wine and other alcoholic beverages and some food. and everything is meant for sampling! i started with champagnes, had a few wines and as the taste buds went down hill i moved onto martinis. we had mussels, lobster medallions, spanish tortes, sushi and a raw fish sandwich with coffe – it was all amazing!

even better then that event though was the seminar on the cheese course aftwerwards. we were seated in a smaller tent and we each had five wines with 7 cheeses (and a single varietal honey). the seminar was wonderful!

I would do it all again – now!

the wine guy is the wine director at bin 36 in chicago (the menu looks great – let's go next time!). The cheese expert was Laura Werlin – the two soft cheeses on the right side were my favorites.

spring crochet

during my unintentional blogging hiatus there was some crafting. a close friend had a baby boy this april and i wanted to make a gift. i've never made a baby blanket and i've never crocheted granny squares so it seemed like a fine time. i pulled the pattern for the square from the happy hooker – thank you debbie stoller!

hiking at our house

tilly's neighbor friends Ali and Sydney were over today and the girls had tons of energy (too much?). so we all walked up to the store – right around dinner time – and for their treat they each decided they wanted a donut. i felt so good about getting them out for a walk before that…

but they were so happy!

4 years old now

BeginningBallet
1stBalletClass
Tilly has known for quite some time that she had to be 4 years old to start ballet. She's talked a lot about it and made sure she had the shoes, tights, etc…

Well today was the first class and it was wonderful! Her best friend is in her class, as well as another friend from school.

The little girls were beyond charming in their pink!

(I'm sorry the pictures are so small. They're from my phone. I didn't want to be too much of a nuisance the first day.)
